Tanya also worked with Pelikan’s Behavior and Counseling services in 2013.  Tanya joined Merit Academy in the summer of 2014 as a Lead Teacher. She became the Administrative Director of Merit Academy shortly thereafter. Tanya has been collaborating and working with Southern Memorial University to help implement their Project Reading Intensity Program for the past 3 years. She isn’t your typical Director/Principal. You can find Tanya and Charity interacting with the kids, helping out in classrooms, collaborating with Merit & Thrive staff daily, and going on field trips to help out whenever needed. Her other experiences include working as a Kindergarten Transition Teacher, Special Education Assistant, Afterschool Assistant, 2nd grade Summer School Teacher, Lindamood-Bell Reading Intervention Teacher, Autism Social Skills Attendant, Special Needs Governess, Therapy Coordinator, and learning independence through Functional Skills and Technological Assistance. Tanya enjoys volunteering for the Special Olympics and sports related social skills camps. Tanya is a 2nd degree black belt in the Karate form, Tang Soo Do and enjoys teaching a modified Tae Kwon Do Karate class every week at Merit Academy. She is a very fun and energetic educator who is passionate about putting our students first.

Charity founded Merit Academy in 2009 and established Thrive Therapy, LLC in 2014. She has been working with children ranging from ages 2-18 for 20 years. She was a Montessori teacher while pursuing her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Psychology, and while pursuing her graduate level work in education she was a teacher and behavior specialist for Plano ISD. She was certified in the state of Texas for general and special education in 2000. Years later she was invited to be the school Director for an accredited private school program for children with learning differences. During that time she was also a Master Mentor for teachers pursuing their certification with the Region 10 Education Center for 2 years. Somehow she also found time to be a CASA advocate for children in Foster Care in Dallas County. In 2009 she received an award from the Circle 10 Council of Dallas for Administrator of the year. Shortly thereafter, in 2009 she founded Merit Academy, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit school program for children with social, emotional, developmental disorders and/or chromosomal conditions.  She has since served as the Founder & President of the preK-12 program. She writes grants for the school, like one that was awarded for a preschool expansion in January 2014 from the Autism Speaks Foundation. With the expansion, the school program moved into an 11,000 square foot building in Farmers Branch, TX. That same year she also opened Thrive Therapy, a pediatric therapy center for children with autism and other disabilities. The therapy center provides prescribed ABA, speech, and occupational therapies for children and collaborates with Merit Academy while providing therapeutic services to the school’s current students as well as outside patients. Charity looks forward to opening more satellite centers and schools in the near future to serve the needs of all families with children with special needs. Charity enjoys traveling the world and participating in fun activities with her 3 kids.
